Sailor was established in 1911 by Mr. Kyugoro Sakata, he was introduced
to the fountain pen by a British sailor. Mr. Sakata, was
so impressed by the design of the fountain pen that he decided to start the manufacturing of fountain pens in
Japan, the Sailor pen company was founded and this is how it got its name.
Later, the Sailor pen company developed robots to remove the pens from injection moulding machines. Demand for these high quality robots became so high that The Sailor company then
formed a seperate company to concentrate on just making robots 'The Sailor Pen co. - Robotics Division'.
